🌹 Daily Crochet Squares – Day 22

Day 22 Crochet Rose Square

Today’s square is a little special. Originally posted in January 2023, it was made in quiet memory of my late mother—who loved roses. Now in 2025, I’m resharing this heartfelt square as part of the revamped 31 Days of Squares series here on Laughing Yarns.

I didn’t find the perfect rose square pattern at the time, so I improvised a bit. I used the Crochet Rose Granny Square from Moara Crochet Designs for the center rose, following just the first six rows of the pattern.

The rest of the square was freehanded—a circle-to-square base made to match the rose and give it a framed look. Then I simply sewed the rose on top with a whip stitch.

Crocheted rose attached to square

🧶 Circle-Square Base (Freehand)

  1. Start with a magic ring. Work 16 double crochet (dc) into it. Join. (16 sts)
  2. Increase in each stitch around: 2 dc per stitch. (32 sts)
  3. [1 dc, inc] repeat around. (48 sts)
  4. Turn into a square: dc in 2 sts, hdc in 2, sc in 3, hdc in 2, dc in 2 → corner: 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr → repeat on each side
  5. Weave in your ends!

The rose was whip-stitched into the center after finishing. I love how soft and dimensional it looks!

✅ Double Check Your Ends

There’s always that one sneaky tail you miss. Take a moment to weave it in and give the square a tidy finish.

📣 Did You Crochet This?

I’d love to see your version of this square—especially if you’ve made it your own. Tag me on TikTok or Instagram and use #AnnsDailyCrochetSquares so I can cheer you on!
